HOW TO APPLY SANDF ARMY TRAINING INTAKE

INTRODUCTION

Applications for the Military Skills Development System (MSDS) for the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) for 2025 are now being accepted, giving young, worthy South Africans the opportunity to enlist in the military.

About 2,000 volunteers are accepted by the MSD System for a two-year term of service in the SA Air Force (SAAF), SA Army, SA Military Health Service (SAMHS), or SA Navy (SAN). Depending on service, specialized mustering training comes after basic military training before being deployed to a division, unit, or garrison.

After the 24-month MSD period ends, a small percentage of MSD volunteers will be given the opportunity to sign short-term contracts with the active duty, often lasting ten years. The remaining volunteers will be expected to apply their military training in the Reserve Force.

The following criteria must be met in order to be eligible to apply for the MSD program: candidates must be South African citizens (dual citizenship is not permitted), be between the ages of 18 and 22 (graduates may be 26), have completed or be enrolled in Grade 12, have no history of serious criminal offenses or pending cases, be tattoo-free, and meet the SANDF’s medical fitness standards.
